Gwent Gazette
|May 01, 2025
A FATHER and son have died together while on holiday in Queensland, Australia.
Robin Reed and his son Owen, from Caerphilly county, got into difficulty off the coast during a visit to the Great Barrier Reef earlier in April.
It happened on the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef at Seventeen Seventy.
A police rescue helicopter pulled the pair from the sea.
There is only one beach patrolled by lifeguards within a 50km radius of Seventeen Seventy.
Robin Reed was a popular football coach in Caerphilly county and many local clubs have paid tribute to him and his son.
His club Pengam posted: “On behalf of Pengam boys and girls and our under-13s Pengam football family, we are deeply heartbroken by the sudden loss of Robin and his son Owen.
