Work on Kozhikode-Wayanad tunnel to begin on Aug.31

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate work on the ambitious Wayanad-Kozhikode twin tunnel road, India’s third largest when completed, on 31 August, according to Minister for Public Works PA Mohammed Riyas.

While announcing the inaugural function in a recent Facebook post, Riyas described the project as a “bright path for Wayanad” and “the direction towards the future of Kerala”.
The tunnel road is expected to ease Wayanad’s longstanding travel hardships while opening up new growth avenues in Kerala's agriculture, trade, and tourism sectors.
The Anakkampoyil-Kalladi-Meppadi tunnel road is also expected to slash the travel time between Kozhikode and Bengaluru. The project tender was awarded in September last year, with the estimated cost pegged at 2043.74 crore rupees.
