Vlogger's official Kerala visit sparks row after 'spy links'

Haryana-based Vlogger/You-Tuber Jyoti Malhotra, who was recently arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan, had visited Kerala on the invitation of the state government as part of its efforts to promote tourism, according to a reply received for a query under RTI (Right To Information).

The revelation sparked a controversy with critics finding fault with the state government for its 'mistake’. According to the RTI document, Jyoti was among 41 social media influencers enlisted by the tourism department from January, 2024, to 21 May, 2085, to promote state tourism. She visited Kannur, Kozhikode, Kochi, Alappuzha and Munnar, with the state government bearing her expenses. Jyoti was arrested in May on charges of espionage. Kerala government funded the travel, accommodation and food of the influencers.
