Vijayan rejects Dileep's 'conspiracy' allegations in assault case

A day after actor Dileep walked out of court acquitted in the 2017 actress abduction and assault case, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Tuesday firmly rejected the Malayalam star’s claim that senior police officials had conspired to implicate him.

Addressing media persons, the chief minister said the investigation had proceeded strictly on the basis of evidence, and that suggestions of foul play on the part of the police were nothing more than attempts at “self-justification.”

“Investigations are not carried out based on emotions or assumptions. The officers acted solely on the basis of the evidence before them. Such claims, raised now, appear only to justify certain things on his part,” Vijayan said.

Vijayan added that he had no recollection of receiving any complaint or representation from the actor alleging a plot by investigators.
