Monsoon to hit Kerala days ahead of usual date

Weather forecasters see an extended spell of rainfall and thunderstorms across several southern states, including Kerala, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu.

Kerala experienced widespread rainfall, while dry weather persisted over Lakshadweep.

Over the next week, Kerala will experience frequent rain or thunderstorms.

The Indian Met Department (IMD) confirmed that the monsoon has progressed into the southern Arabian Sea and parts of the Bay of Bengal, indicating a seasonal shift.

Significant weather activity is expected through the next five to seven days, ahead of the onset of the southwestern monsoon over Kerala coasts on May 27. The IMD said rains have resumed in Kerala, with heavy downpours occurring in various regions over the past few days.

The weather forecaster observed that the monsoon has reached Sri Lanka, with Kerala expected to receive it soon.
