Mohammed hails Omar's Nobel win as Arabs' proud moment

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday congratulated Prof. Omar Yaghi on his winning the Nobel Prize in Chemistry-2025 through the ‘X’ platform, saying “A year ago, we honoured Professor Omar Yaghi with the Great Arab Minds ‘Award in the Natural Sciences category, and today we are congratulating him on winning the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.”

Sheikh Mohammed added, ‘Congratulations to Professor Omar, and to the Arab world. These are the people whose minds we boast about to other nations.'

Sheikh Mohammed continued, “The Arab nation is full of geniuses and rich in talent. Our message is to restore our confidence, our confidence in our youth and our confidence in our scientists.”

He concluded, “This is the message behind the Great Arab Minds Award and all our other humanitarian, civilisational and knowledge initiatives.”

In December 2024, Sheikh Mohammed congratulated Jordanian professor Omar Yaghi on winning the award of Great Arab Minds in the category of Natural Sciences.

Earlier, three scientists, including Omar Yaghi, won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) that can be used to capture carbon dioxide and harvest water from desert air, among other things.
