Court orders man to return Dhs58,260 to woman

The Abu Dhabi Family, Civil and Administrative Cases Court ruled that a man be obliged to pay Dhs58,260 in addition to Dhs30,000 to a woman over charge of defrauding her of this amount following false claims initiated by him via social media.

The Court heard that the plaintiff had communicated with the defendant via social media, subsequently arranging the purchase of flight tickets and hotel accommodation.

Thereafter, she transferred the specified sum to the convict.

However, the latter failed to honour the agreement made and instead proceeded to book the tickets, thereby pocketing the remaining amount.

In detail, the plaintiff initiated legal proceedings against the defendant, seeking compensation for damages amounting to Dhs93,135 and Dhs51,000 for material and moral damages sustained as a consequence of the aforementioned error. Additionally, the complainant sought to recover fees, expenses, and attorney's fees incurred as a result of the legal action.
