Kerala on alert after uptick in Nipah cases

38-YEAR-OLD WOMAN IN PALAKKAD IS CRITICAL, ON VENTILATOR SUPPORT

A 38-year-old woman from Palakkad, who tested positive for the Nipah virus, is currently in critical condition and on ventilator support at Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital, according to local media reports.

Initially admitted to Perintha-Imanna’s Moulana Hospital, the patient was shifted to Kozhikode after her samples were confirmed positive by the National Institute of Virology (NIV) in Pune, Manorama News reported.

Health officials confirmed that the patient has been administered monoclonal antibody treatment. In a major relief, her daughter and a 10-year-old relative - listed as high-risk contacts - have tested negative for the virus.
