Islamic New Year holiday on June 27

The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation yesterday announced that June 27 (Friday) will be a paid holiday for private sector employees on the occasion of Islamic New Year (Hijri) The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources also declared a holiday for the public sector.

This means a three-day weekend when combined with Saturday and Sunday.

Hijri commemorates the migration (Hijra) of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) from Makkah to Madina in 622 CE, an event that marks the beginning of the Islamic lunar calendar. Though the occasion is not typically celebrated on the same scale as Eid Al Fitr or Eid Al Adha, it remains an important date in the Islamic world.
