WORK is finally under way on a multimillion-pound project which will bring scores of brand new homes into Grimsby town centre for the first time in years.

- By COREENA FORD

Business and civic leaders gathered at the site for the pivotal project at Alexandra Dock, where full construction will start next year.

Land preparation has started at the Fishermen's Wharf site, off Garth Lane, where North East Lincolnshire Council Leader Cllr Philip Jackson and the Portfolio Holder for Housing, Infrastructure and Transport, Cllr Stewart Swinburn, visited.

They were joined by senior members of the team from developers Keepmoat, and Peter Taylor, Homes England senior manager for partnership and business development.

Homes England, along with MHCLG (the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government), has backed the scheme, which could become the catalyst for a wider vision to redevelop both sides of the waterfront along Alexandra Dock.
