'I don't want to die in vain' Richard's goal to help after tumour diagnosis

A FATHER is defying the odds after being told he could have a year to live. Richard Wellington, from Lydney, was given a devastating diagnosis six years ago after a sudden seizure.
Mr Wellington learned he had a glioblastoma - the most common high grade brain tumour in adults. He underwent surgery to remove the tumour, followed by chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
He is currently stable, but the condition is incurable - and the average life expectancy following diagnosis is just 12 to 18 months.
In November last year, Richard, 41, took part in a campaign organised by The Brain Tumour Charity, inviting supporters to contact their MP to highlight the challenges for families affected by brain tumours, such as speeding up diagnosis times, improving treatment options, and making sure the right support is available after treatment.
His question about the disease has now been raised in parliament.
And he is determined to continue raising awareness, saying: "I don't want to die in vain".
In his heartfelt letter to Matt Bishop, Labour MP for Forest of Dean, the dad of two wrote: "I was given the unfortunate news that I have a glioblastoma six years ago... my time is short and I know my life expectancy is now even shorter.
"I'm a father of two young children and also a husband to a wonderful wife which unfortunately I will have to leave at some point.
"I ask only one thing - can you please bring this matter to the attention of the House of Parliament. I know deep down it will make no difference to mine or my family's outcome but I so dearly wish that it will spare another family's anguish from this awful disease."
