Domestic units concerned over level playing field
UNITS OPERATING IN Special Economic Zones (SEZs) sought freer access to the domestic market for sales and supplies during a brainstorming session convened by the Ministry of Commerce on Tuesday to discuss harmonisation of multiple, and often overlapping, export promotion schemes.
The meeting, chaired by Commerce Secretary Rajesh Agrawal, included a key demand from SEZs: sales to the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA) should be taxed at the level of duties saved on imported inputs, not charged the full range of duties that imports are subject to.
