A wedding unlike most these days

OH, at last, how wonderful to go to a wedding... rather than a funeral. There have been all too many of them lately.

Last weekend it was the marriage of my husband’s goddaughter in Dorset, and it was absolutely blissful from beginning to end.

For a start, the weather was glorious, but the real icing on the cake was that it wasn’t held in one of those big hotel chains that specialise in this sort of event.

In fact, from what I’ve seen in magazines and experienced first-hand in the last few years, this kind of ‘function,’ always deemed to be ‘posh,’ seems to be dying out, with couples preferring smaller and more atmospheric ceremonies and parties in unusual venues. Inevitable, I suppose. If you don’t attend a church or any other religious venue for years on end, it seems rather ‘odd,’ to say the least, to rock up to get married.
