Starmer's economy plan hit by policy confusion

SIR Keir Starmer's plans to use a keynote speech to set out Labour's vision to boost the UK economy were overshadowed today by confusion over the party's policy on renationalising private rail, energy and water companies.
Ahead of the Labour leader's speech in Liverpool this morning, shadow chancellor Rachel Reeves told the BBC the party would not go into the next election pledging to take major utility firms back into public ownership.
"I've set out fiscal rules that say all day-to-day spending will be funded by day-to-day tax revenues," she told BBC Radio 4's Today programme.
"Within our fiscal rules, to be spending billions of pounds on nationalising things, that just doesn't stack up against our fiscal rules."
