THE NHS at 75 is looking its age. Overcoming four major challenges will give it a much-needed rebirth

.The first challenge is that people can't get the timely treatment they need. Waiting lists have hit a record high of 7.4 million, and targets for A&E, operations, GP appointments, and cancer care have been missed for several years. This was the trend before Covid-19, which exacerbated the problem. At best, longer waits mean inconvenience and discomfort for patients, at worst, more severe illness and cancers being diagnosed later.
