Peerless pie maker Paul adds local hero accolade to his trophy cabinet

The Bathgate butcher behind the nation's "pie of pies" is tasting success of a different kind this week.

Paul Boyle, of Boghall Butchers, has been named this year's High Street Hero for Lothian by the Scotland Loves Local campaign.

The accolade, recognising five decades of dedication to customers in West Lothian, comes just months after his kebab pie was crowned Supreme Champion at the British Pie Awards.

It also comes days after a trip to Japan, where he flew the flag at this year's British food fair in Osaka by showcasing his celebrated pies.

Judges heard how Paul, a trained chef, had succeeded in growing the business from its base in Margaret Avenue while remaining loyal to its community.

They were told: "Paul and his team are very much people's people. They enjoy the work and customer interaction.
