Temperatures continue to keep rising

DERBYSHIRE residents are bracing for another day of intense heat today, as the ongoing heatwave shows no sign of letting up.

Temperatures across the region are forecast to climb as high as 34°C to 35°C, making this potentially the hottest day of the year so far.

The extreme conditions follow a scorching Monday, which saw the country basking in some of the highest June temperatures on record. Much of England entered its fourth consecutive day of heatwave conditions yesterday, with temperatures hotter than typical holiday destinations like Barbados, Jamaica, and Mexico.

Although the official June temperature record of 35.6°C, set in 1976, remains unbeaten, the mercury came close in parts of southern England yesterday.
