Pump it up!

OSCAR FISHER recently completed a marathon stint to review pubs in the city centre. So when a new bar called The Tannery opened, he jumped at the chance to give it a try

AN eclectic mix of beers takes centre stage at Derby's newest bar following its opening last week - further cementing one of the city centre's best streets as the “place to be”.

The Tannery opened its doors in the former Carnivore restaurant in Sadler Gate earlier this month, with a huge variety of beer, wine, cocktails and much more hiding behind the counter.

I paid a visit on a wet and windy Thursday afternoon to see what this bar has to offer, and whether it is even a “bar” at all.

When you step inside, it has all the hallmarks of a trendy bar you would expect to find in the heart of any modern town centre.

Exposed brickwork covers the interior and contrasts with the original wooden beams on show but, apart from that, it seems to have gone down the minimalist route - besides the few colourful abstract paintings dotted around the premises.
