JOHN Eustace hailed Lars-Jorgen Salvesen as the striker gave Derby County's head coach the perfect birthday present with victory over Hull City.

- By LEIGH CURTIS

Salvesen, pictured, struck his first goal of the season as he came off the bench to net with seven minutes remaining of the Championship clash when he capitalised on an awful mix-up between Ivor Pandur and Semi Ajayi.

Derby had looked to be heading for a point until then as Joel Ndala had cancelled out Carlton Morris’ first-half opener when he profited from a collision between goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom and Joe Ward.

But Salvesen's late intervention with essentially his first touch meant it is now four wins on the spin for Derby head coach Eustace, who celebrated turning 46 on Monday.
