By contrast, tomorrow's visitors Huddersfield have won their last four and are fourth in the table going into the match at Haslams Lane (3pm).
Last weekend, Derby suffered a 63-28 defeat away against Blackburn which followed another unsuccesful road trip as they were second best at Stockport.
Now they will be aiming to make home advantage count to get their season on the right track.
“We have had a couple of long trips but now it’s back to more familiar surroundings’” said Slatem.
“It's a big fixture against very decent opposition, so hopefully being back at home will help with the preparation for that.
“I spoke to a coach who had faced Huddersfield and he said to expect a big pack who are physical and accurate.
“Then they have some backs that can move the ball around, so for us defence is going to be crucial.
