'Committed' public servant recommended to take role as interim council chief exec

SOCIAL CARE CHIEF SAYS NEW ROLE COMES AT A TIME OF CHALLENGE AND OPPORTUNITY FOR AUTHORITY

A RECOMMENDATION has been made for the new interim chief executive of Derbyshire County Council.

Simon Stevens, currently the council's executive director for adult social care and health, has been recommended by a cross-party panel of members for approval by full council on Wednesday, October 8.

He will take over from the outgoing managing director, Emma Alexander, who leaves later this month.

Subject to the appointment being approved, Mr Stevens will continue as interim chief executive until the role is filled on a permanent basis, which is expected to be concluded by next spring.

Full council will also be asked to approve the change in name of the role from managing director to chief executive, which will ensure better alignment with most other councils.
