BURTON Albion boss Gary Bowyer hopes Charlie Webster will be back during the week and “ready to go again”.

- By DAN NEWBOULD

Bowyer was forced to substitute one of his star players in Saturday's 1-0 home win against Blackpool after Webster went down following a challenge by Fraser Horsfall, which the referee didn’t even give a foul for, when it appeared to warrant a booking.

Webster played on but had to come off early in the second half, replaced by JJ Mckiernan.

Giving an update, Bowyer said: “It was a strong challenge and he’s come off the worst of it but hopefully he'll be back during the week and ready to go again.

“He went back out there but then quickly realised and, again I talk about selfless acts, he could have stayed on and just looked after himself but he didn’t.

“He realised that he was struggling a little bit and so then he's got to make the sacrifice for the team. It didn’t surprise me and he’s been sensible.”

It was another win for the Brewers with the League One fixture decided by a solitary goal from Jake Beesley against his former club.
