BARBARIC MEDIEVAL INTERROGATION CHAIR UP FOR AUCTION

- By LYNETTE PINCHESS

FOR SALE ~a barbaric torture device that could date back to medieval times.

The wooden back-to-back interrogation chairs have shackles for the throat and wrists and metal spikes on the armrests and for the back of the neck.

It's likely that it was used to extract confessions from prisoners, or even suspected witches, hundreds of years ago. What makes it particularly unusual is the fact it's a twin seat. The rare item will be auctioned next month.

Owner Sian Cullen is moving to Scotland and needs to get rid of it, along with a metal cage.

After the elm chair turned out bigger than she expected, she has been storing it under a sheet in her car port at home in Long Eaton.

Sian, 32, said: “I've been into history for a long time and went to the University of Nottingham to study. Medieval and early modern history have always been particular periods of interest for me.
