Auto-rickshaw drivers call statewide protest on March 23 over alleged RTO coercion

Auto-rickshaw drivers and owners across Maharashtra have announced a statewide protest on March 23, alleging "illegal coercion" by Regional Transport Office (RTO) authorities to compel them to register with a welfare board, according to a press release.

In a statement, Vilas Bhalekar, General Secretary of the Auto Rickshaw Drivers and Owners Joint Action Committee, claimed that RTO officials are pressuring drivers to enrol in the Dharmaveer Anand Dighe Maharashtra Auto Rickshaw and Meter Taxi Drivers' Welfare Board.
