A DEVASTATING fire at the Nyanga taxi rank that destroyed nine vehicles has sparked a call for security cameras at transport hubs.

In the early hours of Friday, Nyanga police officers on patrol in Terminus Road, Nyanga, around 1.30am spotted smoke coming from the taxi rank and rushed to the scene immediately.

They found five Quantums and four Sprinter taxis on fire and called Fire and Rescue Services to extinguish the blaze.

According to the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (Cata) spokesperson Nkululeko Sityebi, the taxis belonged to their members.
