Betting case came when close to big City move

LUCAS PAQUETA has been told to give serious consideration to suing the FA after possibly costing him a career-changing move to Manchester City.

The West Ham midfielder is said to have “his mojo back” after being cleared of four spot-fixing charges brought by the Football Association, who announced they will not appeal the decision.

But focus has now been placed on the FA’s decision to open the investigation in August 2023, which torpedoed Paqueta’s chance of a proposed £80m switch to the then Premier League champions.

Alastair Campbell, partner at Level and head of Paqueta’s legal team, revealed that talks are ongoing with the Brazilian about suing the FA.

He said: “Nothing is off the table at this point, but it's something we're talking to Lucas about.
