The bet365 Premier Novices’ Hurdle is one of the only pattern races run over 2m2f, which is a trip THE LAST CLOUD (2.15) promises to excel over.
The grey ran at Cheltenham in October off the back of three smart wins through the summer, but a galloping two miles run at such a strong pace caught him off guard.
The winner, Fortune De Mer, approached his hurdles at an average speed of 32.5 mph, which was at least 1mph faster than The Last Cloud had ever been in any of his previous races. Because of this sustained pace, he was unable to quicken as he had been able to on sharper tracks in the summer.
