JOTA'S TIME TO SHINE
Daily Star
|December 27, 2023
MO SALAH may soon be departing but thankfully Darwin Nunez and Diogo Jota are back on the goal trail for Liverpool.
Salah leaves for the Africa Cup of Nations after next Monday's game against Newcastle and the Reds will undoubtedly miss their top scorer and talisman.
Nunez and Jota's return to goalscoring form means his loss will be tempered and the pair have timed their comebacks to perfection.
Uruguayan striker Nunez opened the scoring with his first goal in 13 games, while Jota came off the bench to net within seven minutes of his comeback.
The Portuguese playmaker had been out for a month with a hamstring injury and he is Liverpool's fox in the box.
The Reds were made to fight every inch of the way by Vincent Kompany's spirted Burnley before Jota sealed this priceless victory in the final minute.
The Liverpool players celebrated in front of their delirious fans and it was a night of positives for the visitors.
They are back at the top of the Premier League and Nunez and Jota are back among the goals.
Jurgen Klopp triumphed on Boxing Day again and the Liverpool boss has won all six games on this date.
