Honest Guimaraes wants new recruits to lift Toon

BRUNO GUIMARAES has delivered a brutal assessment on the most successful season in Newcastle's recent history.

Rather than bask in the glory of a campaign which saw the Magpies win the Carabao Cup and qualify for the Champions League, the skipper’s verdict on the past nine months was “must do better”.

It is evidence of the high bar that boss Eddie Howe has set his players.

Newcastle won just two of their last six games and scraped into the top five courtesy of Manchester United’s win over rivals Aston Villa.

Injuries and a squad which, at times, was at breaking point contributed to the nervy finish.
