The Shining star had grown up believing his grand-mother, Ethel May Nicholson, was his mum. He only learned the truth in 1974, when Time magazine conducted a back-ground check before featuring him on the cover. Sadly, both women had already died.

Come on Oprah: In 2010, chat show host Oprah Winfrey found out she had a secret half-sis-ter named Patricia Lee. She had been given up for adop-tion in 1964. Patricia is said to have known about her famous relative for years before getting in touch. After a DNA test, they reunited on the Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011.
