But it turns out not everyone dreams of being feted by royalty with a day at the palace.

Crown of thorns: Oliver Cromwell, the original anti-monarchist, was offered the crown by Parliament in 1657 just eight years after he had Charles I beheaded. Then the Lord Protector of England, Scotland and Ireland, he agonised for six weeks before saying no.
