BRITAIN has been battered by the "worst snowfall in a decade" as 99mph Storm Goretti tore through the country.

Snow has already blanketed large areas - with up to 10ins more to come over the weekend/ And tens of thousands of properties have been left without power.

The near-100mph storm also caused school closures and travel chaos as forecasters issued a rare red warning for "dangerous, stormy" winds in the south west.

Storm Goretti "continues to cause problems" as a mixture of rain, sleet and snow batters some areas, the Met Office said last night.
