Estate cars have become overshadowed by SUVs as the choice for families - but just because they're not the popular choice doesn't mean you shouldn't consider one.

Take Subaru's Outback - a practical, comfortable and capable family wagon with the added benefit of all-wheel-drive. The Outback has grown a reputation as a reliable workhorse, offering bags of interior space while having some of the firm's rallying DNA under its skin. So, is the latest model up to stealing sales from SUVs? Let's find out.

WHAT'S NEW?

The Outback is in a niche category of all-wheel-drive estates, similar to Audi's old "Allroad" range. This features exterior and interior changes with a revised front end, chunkier side profile and updated infotainment system with a portrait screen. But, the all-wheel-drive system remains the same, as does the powertrain and generous standard equipment.
