Top-level football is a tough gig and with no silverware to show for another season, Arteta is a man on a hiding to nothing

- JEREMY CROSS CHIEF SPORTS WRITER

ALL it needs now is for Tottenham to win the Europa League and Mikel Arteta's misery will be complete.

Imagine that. A club which couldn't win a raffle if it had the only ticket, landing some silverware.

While neighbours who promised to deliver so much, end up with nada.

Arteta has been a bridesmaid so many times in recent seasons he's now in danger of disappearing under all the flowers.

Because once again, Arsenal's season has failed to bloom once the warm weather arrives.

Under Arteta, Arsenal will finish a fifth successive campaign without a trophy following their Champions League exit to Paris Saint-Germain.

And it feels like the occasion of a semi-final got to the Spaniard.

Despite failing to make it past the last four, Arteta claimed Arsenal were the best side in Europe this season.

Spoiler alert...they're not even the best side in England.
