Sir Gareth would be a class apart at Old Trafford

Southgate was able to restore faith in England

MANCHESTER UNITED'S misguided sense of entitlement and arrogance has been laughable in recent times.

Not least because the fallen giants have gone from a club which expected to win to one unable to string even two of them together.

It has led to some frenzied speculation about whether or not Ruben Amorim will be sacked - and who might replace him.

And when it comes to the name of Sir Gareth Southgate, it appears United's skewed attitude towards what is good enough and acceptable has now spread to the fanbase.

You'd have thought the club were considering appointing Team USA's losing Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley rather than Southgate, such was the outpouring of vitriol on that cesspit of a social-media platform known as 'X'.

Reports suggested United had opened talks with Southgate, which the club denied.
