My pal Maswanhise is one of the best in country but it’s torture facing him in training says Matty

- BY ALISON MCCONNELL

MATTY CONNELLY sits next to Tawanda Maswanhise in the Fir Park changing room - for now.

But the Motherwell keeper admits getting close to him in training is another thing entirely as he hopes to continue picking the ball out the net for a long time to come.

The 23-year-old striker netted his 15th club goal of the season as Jens Berthel Askou’s side reached the Scottish Cup last 16.

Celtic boss Martin O'Neill sat among those who saw Maswanhise’s instinctive finish as he stuck out a boot to turn Lukas Fadinger's effort from the edge of the box past Ross County keeper Trevor Carson just past the hour.

O'Neill's presence, alongside coach Mark Fotheringham, at Fir Park prompted suggestions the Hoops may well be lining up a move for the Zimbabwe star.

Askou declared after a seventh clean sheet on the trot at home he wants to keep his squad intact until the end of the season.

But Maswanhise's form is such that it is inevitable he is linked with a move away from Lanarkshire.
