Time running trout

WE'RE getting to last call on the brown trout season for the year, it runs from March 15 to October 6.

A lot of us will have hung up the rods, maybe switching focus to pike, salmon and soon grayling but if you are heading out this last weekend and prepared to fish to the conditions then youre in with a chance of catching one to round off the year and quite possibly big trout too.

The rivers are going to be up in flood. Providing it’s still fishable, floodwater conditions offer the perfect opportunity to fish a really large streamer, such as the Sculpins or Skullhead Zonkers and oversized Wooly Buggers.

In these conditions “normal” fly fishingis simply not possible, but with a size 4 streamer attached, the trout will notice your fly even in chocolate brown water!
