FIVE Scots gangsters who were arrested in Dubai may have to endure the country's notorious Al-Awir prison.

- BY EVE BEATTIE

Crime bosses Ross “Miami” McGill, 31, and Steven Lyons, 44, were nicked following early morning raids this week.

Also detained were crooks Steven Jamieson, 41, Steven Larwood, 41, and another man believed to be an associate of kingpin McGill.

They were snared after a crackdown on organised crime in the desert state.

They fear they could be locked up in the “hellhole” Al-Awir jail where many foreign suspects are taken to as they await extradition - which could take up to two years.

The prison - 20 miles from Dubai’s swanky hotels and shopping malls - has been blasted by human rights campaigners. Male prisoners are forced to have their heads shaved on arrival and face punishment if their hair grows too long. Former detainees have described overcrowding, poor hygiene and daily violence.
