PROPOSAL Private hire journeys could face tax

THE cost of booking a taxi in Scotland could rocket as Rachel Reeves considers imposing VAT on all private hire journeys.

The UK Chancellor will announce the Budget next month amid warnings the Treasury will impose tax hikes to plug a £50billion black hole in the national finances.

Taxi firms outside of London do not have to charge VAT on journeys because their drivers are classed as self-employed contractors.
