SLUSHIE 'LEFT TOT MINUTES FROM DEATH'

A TODDLER was left “20 minutes from death” after drinking a slushie at her pal’s birthday party.

Little Arla Agnew, two, had been enjoying the icy blue drink at the event on Saturday but began to show signs of being seriously unwell just 30 minutes later.

The tot, from Stranraer, started to complain she was tired, before her body turned grey and she fell unconscious.

Arla’s gran, Stacey Agnew, said she was left terrified when the usually bubbly Arla suddenly appeared lifeless after the drink, which she told us was a Slush Puppie. Stacey, 39, rushed her granddaughter to Galloway Community Hospital on July 27, where medics discovered she was in hypoglycemic shock.

Arla was hooked up to an IV tube at the hospital to help stabilise her, before she was blue-lighted to Dumfries and Galloway Hospital for further treatment.

Reliving the terrifying experience, Stacey said: “We were at the park and usually you can’t get Arla away from it but after she drank the slushie, she started crying. She said she was tired, so we took her home.”

Stacey said Arla started quickly drifting in and out of consciousness and complained of being cold.

She continued: “We decided to take her to the local hospital but she became unresponsive in the car.

“It had only been half an hour since she had the drink but we had no idea what was wrong.
