RORY MCILROY was in tears after ending his emotional year on a high by equalling Seve Ballesteros' tally of six Race to Dubai titles.

The Northern Irishman announced he planned to divorce in May then suffered more heartache by losing the US Open in June.

And the world No.3, who had another near miss at the Irish Open, continues to be involved in talks over the future of golf.

But yesterday McIlroy was able to celebrate with his wife Erica and daughter Poppy after winning the DP World Tour Championship by two shots from Rasmus Hojgaard and six in front of Scotland's Robert MacIntyre, tied in seventh.
