Prof dismisses planning row and local man theories, saying key to cracking case lies in the victim's business dealings

TV CRIME expert David Wilson claims that banker Alistair Wilson was murdered by a professional hitman and believes his work as a business manager is key to solving the case.

- BY NORMAN SILVESTER

Alistair was gunned down on the steps of his home in Crescent Road, Nairn, on November 28, 2004, with his wife and two young sons indoors.

At the time of the murder almost 21 years ago, Alistair had quit his post with HBOS to take on a new job in Inverness.

In an exclusive interview with Criminal Record, Professor Wilson said detectives should employ a forensic accountant to look at Alistair’s work at the bank before his murder.

He added: “It has all the hallmarks to me of a professional hit and catching professional hitmen is notoriously difficult.

“I do not think it has got anything to do with Alistair Wilson’s domestic life. I do not think it has got anything to do with his life in relation to where he was living. I think it was more to do with the fact that Alistair Wilson had just left his job at HBOS where he was a business manager.”
