BARRY FERGUSON has called on his Rangers side to light a fire under the Ibrox faithful as he aims to illuminate a path to the Europa League quarter-finals.

- BY ANDY NEWPORT

The caretaker gaffer masterminded last week's incredible Istanbul triumph over Fenerbahce.

The 3-1 first-leg victory over Jose Mourinho’s Turks has nudged the Light Blues to within 90 minutes of the last eight.

Ferguson - club captain when Walter Smith's team marched to the UEFA Cup Final in 2008 - is well aware of how the home support can have an uplifting effect. And he wants his men to give them a reason to crank up the volume even louder as they look to finish off the Yellow Canaries.

The 47-year-old said: "In terms of playing here, I know what it's like on European nights.

"As a player, you've got to want to play in front of this crowd. I've been here this season against Lyon, the Tottenham game-and the place is electric.

"We need to light that fire in the stands, that's what we need to start doing. The guys are well aware of that.

"You've got to be excited about this. If you get this place rocking, it's a proper place to play football.

"I've told the guys, they know how good they've played and some of the guys have played European nights here.
