Martin's hint over troubled Ibrox start

- FROM SCOTT MCDERMOTT IN BRUGGE

SYMPATHY is in short supply for Russell Martin right now.

And given their early-season form - domestically, at least - it's no wonder.

Certainly, as he walked off the pitch in Paisley after Sunday's dismal 1-1 draw with St Mirren, the Rangers supporters were in no mood to feel sorry for their new gaffer.

Whatever has gone on behind the scenes at Ibrox in the early part of his tenure, there can be no excuses for not being able to beat the likes of Dundee at home.

But the latest Hamza Igamane debacle topped off a turbulent 83 days in charge.

Martin has already signed nine players and there will be more on the way before facing Celtic in the first Old Firm derby - especially with £10million pocketed from the sale of the Moroccan striker.

When the dust finally settles as the transfer window finally shuts on Monday, Martin will have the squad he wants. And then he'll be expected to deliver.

But as he prepared for tonight's Champions League playoff second leg against Club Brugge-trailing 3-1-he hinted he's had to deal with a lot more chaos than anyone knows.

Martin said: "One day, hopefully when we've won a lot of games and won something at this club, maybe we can sit down and be really honest about these first couple of months and what we've had to deal with.

"It's really difficult. It was the same at Southampton. So many players thought their futures lay elsewhere when I arrived. Towards the end of the transfer window, we had a really bad run of form because so many players were being told by their agents and other clubs they'd get a deal.
