Backer MSP doubts if he'd be able to help his wife

- BY KATRINE BUSSEY

MSP George Adam has spoken of his support for assisted dying - but admits he couldn't bear to aid his ill wife.

The former minister said he doesn't know if he would "ever be strong enough" to assist Stacey, who has MS.

The couple, from Paisley, have been married for 29 years and have two children and four grandchildren.

In an emotional speech at Holyrood, George said: "Stacey and I support Liam McArthur's Bill, not because it's about us now, but because one day it might be.

"If the suffering becomes unbearable, Stacey should have that right to choose how her life ends with dignity, with compassion and surrounded by those who love her."
