Davie wants more protection for bosses as sack window floated

- BY ALAN ROBERTSON

DAVID MARTINDALE has floated the idea of a transfer window for managers - because he's “disgusted” how immune the game has become to gaffers lasting as little as 39 days.

And he's doubled down on his take on “YouTubers and podcasters” telling bosses how to do their job, claiming: “That's like me working in a hospital but saying I'm a heart surgeon.”

The Livingston manager watched former Premiership counterpart Ange Postecoglou be shown the door at Nottingham Forest this month eight games in.

And he believes those clubs that have sidestepped the hire and fire culture, such as Hibs with David Gray or teams south of the border, are the ones who stand to benefit.

Martindale said: “I genuinely think there needs to be something in football where we're kind of treated nearly like a player, to a certain degree, that you can't just hire and fire, you can do it in a window. See if you sign a manager in the summer and you're sacking him eight games later, that's harsh.

“But if you couldn't get rid of the manager until the January, potentially, does it maybe make you do your job a wee bit better?
