IT'S MURDER IN THE CARIBBEAN

NOT so long ago, TV went through a phase where every new show, to stand a chance of success, had to be called “The Great British...” something or other, or “Secrets Of...” this, that or what-have-you.

Placing certain words or expressions in a programme's title, it was thought, would act like a lucky charm, giving its ratings a boost.

The same has come to apply these days to shows with the word “Paradise” in theirs.

This one, set on the sun-kissed nonexistent island of Saint Marie, has become such a success (this new series is its 943rd, would you believe?) that it’s spawned two popular spin-offs - namely, Beyond Paradise, set in Devon (a place which actually does exist), and Return To Paradise, set in Australia (which is strongly rumoured to).
