MotD host beats Ant and Dec to telly gong

HIS Match of the Day career may be over but Gary Lineker returned to winning ways last night, lifting the trophy for best presenter at the National Television Awards.

The 64-year-old ended Ant and Dec's 23-year run of winning the gong which is voted for by the public.

After 26 years presenting the BBC football show, the former England striker left under a cloud in May after apologising for sharing an antisemitic social media post.

In his acceptance speech at the London bash, he said: "It's not lost on me why I might have won this award.
