Damilola hoped to change the world....25yrs after he died we'll keep that message

WEEKS before he was killed, 10-year-old Damilola Taylor wrote at school about his hope that one day he would change the world.

Now, 25 years on, it’s up to other people to change it on his behalf.

Leroy Logan, a trailblazing former Met Police officer and a relative by marriage of the Taylor family, has just taken over as chairman of the Damilola Taylor Trust after Damilola's dad, Richard, died last year aged 75.

Before tomorrow's anniversary of a crime that stunned the nation, it’s Leroy's job to make sure the message of its innocent victim is still heard.

imageHe told our sister paper the Mirror: “Times are ever more challenging at the moment for those living in vulnerable communities.

“Richard had been especially vociferous in supporting policing and wanting to bring community and police closer together.

“With my background and experience, I hope I can fill his big shoes and take this challenge on.

“It has never been more important to see everyone pulling together to keep vulnerable young people safe.

image“When Damilola died, it made headlines all over the world. This kind of crime, where a young person would take the life of another young person, just didn't happen in a city like London.”

Damilola was born in Lagos, Nigeria, and moved to London with Richard and mum Gloria in August 2000.
