Kane was denied a hat-trick when his strike hit the bar but happy to help Pars into last 8

CHRIS KANE could have left with the match ball but was just chuffed to net twice as Dunfermline clinched a Scottish Cup quarter- final for the first time in 17 years.

The striker fired home a late double to see off stubborn Kelty after being told an earlier strike that hit the underside of the bar and bounced on the line three times was not over.

Kane wheeled away in celebration thinking that effort on the hour was in but ref Lloyd Wilson and his assistants thought differently.

Even TV footage is inconclusive from an incident that would have been perfect for a Question of Sport's What Happened Next? segment.

That talking point had no bearing on the result and Kane is relieved to set up a clash with either Aberdeen or Motherwell back at East End Park.

Kane, who came on for Graham Carey at halftime, said: “I've seen it back loads and I still don’t know myself if it’s over.

“At the time I thought it was, that's why I've run to the corner celebrating.

“But the angles I've seen, it’s hard to tell if it is over.

“The first bounce looks like it’s over, it hits the bar and it still looks like it bounces back.”
